Cadillac is an American luxury vehicle mark owned by General Motors (GM). It is currently the second oldest American automobile manufacturer and is among the oldest automobile brands in the world. It was founded in 1902 by Henry Leland, a master mechanic and entrepreneur, who named the company after his ancestor, Antoine de la Mothe Cadillac, the founder of the city of Detroit. General Motors purchased the company in 1909 and within six years, Cadillac had laid the foundation for the modern mass production of automobiles by demonstrating the complete interchangeability of its precision parts while simultaneously establishing itself as America’s premier luxury car.
The first Cadillac logo was based on the family crest of the man for whom the company was named. His coat of arms, like many other family crests, was borrowed from a nobler neighbor. The first logo has the couronne or coronet with seven pearls, the shield with quarterings, the three merlettes in two of the four quarterings and the colors, red, blue, gold, black and silver. As the years pass by and new car models were released, the Cadillac logo also evolved and underwent an evolutionary change but more dramatic. Gone were the pearl-topped crowns and the six merlettes in the new Cardillac logo but the shield that wore the colors from Cardillac tradition, red, blue, black, silver and gold on a platinum background and the wreath which is now in a mechanical form remained.
Just like any other car logos, the Cadillac logo evolved and changed but still remained some important points of its history in their logo. In this car logo, it enfolds the origin, genealogy, deeds, services, honors and alliances of the family bearing it.
