Proton car company logoFounded in 1983 and headquartered in Subang Jaya and Shah Alam, Selangor, Malaysia with a manufacturing plant in Tanjung Malim, Perak, Proton is the only Malaysian car manufacturing company for ten years. In the year of 1993, another company established an automobile company and became Proton’s competitor, Perodua.

Proton is a Malay acronym for Perusahaan Otomobil Nasional or National Automobile Enterprise when translated into English. Proton is a division from Proton Holdings Berhad, which is a holding company listed on Bursa Malaysia. Proton Holdings Berhad is a government-linked company for the majority of its equity is owned by a government company called Khazanah Nasional Berhad. The Mitsubishi Motors and the parent Mitsubishi is also once a part owner of this company for more than two decades. They hold a 7.93% stake in Proton, but they sold it in March 2004. The partnership went well at first, but it failed because of lack of technology transfer, which made Mitsubishi decide to dispose its entire 15.86% stake in Proton.

Proton also engaged in export, and they could send their modes to United Kingdom, South Africa and Australia, and it is continuing in its marketing to other nations like Middle East. Aside from this major exporting they do. They also send small volume of cars to Singapore, Brunie, Indonesia, Thailand, Nepal, Sri Lanka, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Taiwan, Cyprus and Mauritius. This company accounted for 14, 706 units exported in 2006. This trend went up to 21,261 in 2009 but fell to 18,769 in 2010 because of global recession.

As Proton Automobile Company expands, they thought of designing and launching their logo badge or what so called as the Proton logo. Some may think that having car logos are not important for a company. However, that belief is not right for business men. For them, car logos are important for it serve as a visual representation to a company. Car logos are also a way of advertisement that will improve the popularity of a car brand. Proton logo is presented as an upside-down  semi triangular shape printed with “Proton” on its upper part and having an image on its center part. Proton logo used the colors green and yellow on its badge.
